This latest edition of the Georgia State University Department of Anthropology Newsletter was first published on World Anthropology Day, February 15, 2024. As we continue to circulate the newsletter – and in the continuing spirit of that holiday – we have much news of faculty and student achievement and of general goings-on in the Department of Anthropology to share. We have much news of faculty and student achievement and general goings-on in the Department of Anthropology to share in honor of the occasion. The past year has been one of great activity in which our students and faculty brought their energy and expertise to bear in doing anthropology and communicating with the public around Atlanta and far beyond. Read further to learn about some of the ways this happened, from the exhibit Dr. Nicola Sharratt and her students staged at Georgia State University in collaboration with the Peruvian Consulate in Atlanta to M.A. student Bobby Theberge’s engaged archaeological research at historical Penfield Cemetery and Dr. Bethany Turner’s participation in a French documentary on the Inca Empire.
A key piece of news is that Dr. Kathryn Kozaitis retired from the University at the end of 2023. We will still see her in her new role as Professor Emerita around the Department. However, this transition is a perfect moment to reflect on her many contributions to our extended community and to celebrate them. In the newsletter below, please find more information about Dr. Kozaitis’s illustrious career at Georgia State and how you can participate with us in honoring her this year.
