The Anthropology Club hosted a cultural potluck and a party that brought together the Anthropology Department and many other departments within the College of Arts and Sciences to celebrate this national day. Here, students and faculty could promote their subfields of interest – cultural, biological, linguistic, and archaeology – to those interested in learning more about anthropology. This was a day to enjoy fantastic cultural foods to eat, music to listen to, and to look at cultural artifacts from around the world that our lovely Georgia State University Anthropology professors proudly display. Thank you to everyone who was involved in this fantastic event.
The Anthropology Club is also excited to share all the fantastic club activities that were held throughout the fall 2023 semester! With impressive turnouts and members from various fields of study, the club has focused on all the subfields of anthropology, catering to everyone's interests. The first club meeting was on September 7th in the Archaeology Lab at Dahlberg Hall, which consisted of an introduction to what the club is about, what we do, and the goals for the semester. There, we met members of not only the Anthropology Department but also those in Biology, Environmental Science, Psychology, Computer Science, and so on. The next club meeting, September 26th, was officially titled, “What Can You NOT Do In Anthropology?” where each officer talked about their specific interest in Anthropology and discussed the endless research topics one might have in the field. The club was also honored to hear from Dr. White, Dr. De Franscisco, and Dr. Glover, who graciously talked about their work and how they did it. Continuing with our meetings, the club hosted a trivia night called “Are You Smarter Than an Anthropologist?” in the Biological Anthropology Lab at Sparks Hall on October 17th. Popcorn and drinks were served as everyone competed against one another with plenty of anthropology-related questions. The last hurrah of the semester was a field trip to the Carlos Museum on November 17th, where the members surrounded themselves with many ancient artifacts from around the world. The museum provided tour guides for the club, which was very educational and fun! Overall, the Anthropology Club had a successful semester and wants to thank everyone for their support!
